Transcendental meditation

Transcendental meditation is a special form of “silent” meditation. It is a very simple and natural way to achieve peace of mind and general relaxation, not involving contemplation and concentration. The best effect is achieved with regular practice twice a day for twenty minutes.

The purpose of transcendental meditation (hereinafter – TM) is to overcome the thought itself and achieve a state of “pure consciousness”. It helps to realize root causes, however, without adhering to the specific object of thought.

It was found that transcendental meditation activates alpha brain waves which characterize  a state of relaxation. The fact is that although the TM is not aiming to develop the ability to live and be aware of the experience of the present moment (Awareness meditation), those who regularly practice it for more than 3 months have also increased their ability to recognize the “moment”.

4 important positive effects of Transcendental Meditation

1) Relieves stress

Of course, most of the meditation practices help to relieve stress. Nevertheless, stress in many cases is the main cause of illnesses and dysfunctions of the body and mind. Transcendental meditation provides deep relaxation, and thereby, the functioning of the nervous system, and hormonal balance normalizes.

2) Improves cognitive abilities

Numerous studies with the participation of students of different ages and educational degrees (school pupils, students, graduate students, etc.) showed that the practice of TM increases intellectual capabilities and learning skills.

3) Normalizes blood pressure

People suffering from hypertension, heart diseases, regardless of their age and intensity of their daily activity managed to reduce blood pressure by practicing TM regularly.

4) Helps to successfully overcome addiction to alcohol and cigarettes

The faster addicted people achieve stress reduction through meditation, the faster they got rid of their addictions. It happens naturally.

You will not find the technique of transcendental meditation on the Internet or in a regular bookstore. You can learn the basics only from a certified teacher who has undergone special training. Moreover, the teaching and practice are standardized.

Each practitioner receives his own mantra to achieve the goal.

Although transcendental meditation is not a meditation based on a mantra, meaning that its goal is achieving a transcendental state (beyond the limits of experiential knowledge), nevertheless, it involves the use of mantras as a tool to overcome the “wandering mind” and thoughts.

The practitioner first thinks about the sound of the mantra, and during the practice this active thought about the mantra gradually reduces to zero, while the awareness of the source of thought comes, and the conscious mind reaches the transcendental state.

Thus, each practitioner will have his own mantra given by the teacher.
