Mantra yoga – spiritual practice leads to success

Mantra or Japa yoga is a direction that affects the body and mind of a person through sound vibrations. The practice is based on the work with the healing energy of sounds and rhythms. The singing of prayers and sacred sounds is the most powerful instrument of the ancient sages, influencing the surrounding world. Sanskrit words have the ability to heal the body, and change the human mind. They transform energy, calm our wandering mind. The effectiveness of meditation is determined by the principle: “We become what our mind is focused on.” This is the way to success.

What it is Japa yoga?

Japa yoga, like most spiritual practices, sets the main goal of knowing one’s self through communication with the Divine. Through sound vibrations, the perception and vision of the surrounding worlds gradually changes, the values ​​change. Thus, it helps to achieve spiritual harmony. In ancient treaties it is said that the visible world is nothing more than a small part of molecular matter. What we see is only one of the many layers of the universe. Astral world existed long before the physical world, and it is full of emotions and images, thoughts and feelings, and all this is closely connected with the vibrations of sounds.

Yogis possessing invaluable knowledge have learned to change the visible physical world through singing mantras and contacting with the astral world. For many centuries, world religions have been practicing japa yoga. The healing properties of sound vibrations, repetitions of sacred syllables give a strong positive effect on the physical and spiritual state of a person. However, Mantra Yoga does not use physical exercises to achieve a positive effect.

Mantra yoga practice

There are several variations of chanting mantras:

  1. Vaikhari Japa. To restore mental balance, practitioners sing or pronounce aloud sounds or prayers, observing special rhythm. Beginners often use this method because of its simplicity. 
  2. Upamshu Japa is the next stage after Vaikhari Japa. It consists of continuous whispering of words and syllables. Practice is possible without rhythm and motive. It is recommended moving to the second stage of Japa Yoga no earlier than after three months of regular Vaikhari Japa classes. 
  3. Manasika Japa. Mental repeating of mantras. It requires some preparation since it is difficult to concentrate without moving your lips or your own voice. 
  4. Ajapa Japa. The highest level of Mantra yoga practice. It does not require any conscious effort, since the repetition of mantras occurs by itself. Due to the regular practices, mantra is firmly rooted in the human essence and it is uttered from the heart. 
  5. Another effective practice is Sagarbha pranayama, when practitioner combines reciting mantra with concentration on breathing.

Often meditations are carried out in groups, with the appropriate music or sounds. It is possible to use a rosary, an image of a deity, writing mantras on a paper. During meditation practice we should listen to our body. Gradually it is filled with harmony, energy, light, warmth, calm.

Types of mantra

Ancient sages identified sacred sounds of mantras in the moments of the highest enlightenment, expanded consciousness.

  1. Mantras of liberation – help to overcome limitations of physical body and lead to the total liberation. They were received while in a state of ecstasy, unity with the Higher Mind or some other form of the Divine. The recitation of these mantras leads towards human transformation and evolution. They are safe, you can repeat them at any level of training. 
  2. Mantras of blessing appeared in the states of invocation of the Divine or in a prayer. Depending on the intentions and goals during the session, practitioners seek help of the highest light or dark power, energy, and spirits. It is already more serious stage of practice, it aims at achieving well-being and improving everyday life.
  3. Mantras of healing carry the intention to heal the body and spirit of a person from a specific disease. Not only combination of rhythm, melody and words has beneficial effects, but also a faith in mantras healing properties. Faith grows while adopting of the Supreme Mind, the Divine, it allows mantra to show its goodness. The mind is like an archer, decided to fire arrows. When the mind is calm, the will is indestructible, and the thought is pure, the fired arrow reaches the intended goal. When the arrow reaches the goal, the will awakens. The will produces faith. Faith creates miracles.
